Girona's indifference condemns them to another defeat and brings them closer to relegation.
Alavés wins a direct duel in Montilivi, who expresses their displeasure with a whistle

GIRONAIn Girona, all the alarm bells have definitely gone off. The defeat to Alavés, a direct rival in the fight to avoid relegation, added to the already recurring poor image, has provoked indignation in Montilivi (0-1). The fans, who not long ago idolized their team, now hiss at them. The unbridled passion that prevailed in the city has given way to the panic of seeing the ship sinking with no one doing anything to stop it. Míchel's team has only collected six of the 33 points in the second half of the season, winning one of their last thirteen. A disaster.
Because Girona has a bigger problem than results: the team is made up of eleven men who wear the same shirt but seem to know nothing about each other. The pattern repeats itself every week, regardless of the chosen players, opponent, and matchday. All eleven share a common history, yes, but each one lives their own path. There's no woven complicity, there are individual adventures that don't even coincide. Some give the impression they don't understand the orders they must follow on the field. Others execute them incorrectly. They barely support each other when they make mistakes. Not even a simple pat. They seem like strangers. It's sad to see the Girona players like this, with the joy they radiated and the indifference they convey.
Míchel, from the sidelines, gets angry. But today Míchel is a coach overwhelmed by events. He no longer knows which key to press, or when. The Madrid native does strange things, and he surely needs a long vacation. He singles out players, removing them from the field without explanation when they're regulars, or he brings them back into the fold as if nothing had happened after a long period of absence. Against Alavés, it was the turn of several.
Arnau, who paid the price for the thrashing at Montjuïc; Tsygankov, suffering from a fever during the week; Abel Ruiz, who hadn't played since early February and who was whistled off, as happened recently with Miovski; Asprilla, who wanted to play and missed a golden opportunity to prove himself; and Arthur. Special mention goes to the Brazilian, the only signing of the winter transfer market. The reinforcement that was supposed to provide the football that the team, for a few months, has been missing. Well, on one of the most important days of the season and playing at home against a direct rival that they had to beat if they wanted peace of mind, he was left on the bench. Hours later, by the way, after a news report was published revealing that he was robbed on Thursday afternoon in Barcelona, and that a high-end watch was stolen from his left wrist.
It hasn't been surprising at all to see how Girona has continued with its boring and predictable football. The red-and-whites convey nothing, only despondency and decline, waiting for someone to save them from the hole they've fallen into, ever closer to relegation. Aside from a few actions by Danjuma, amidst boos from Míchel, the desert is empty. In fact, it was Alavés who came close to scoring from the start, with Kike's counterattack leading to Gazzaniga, who ended up rising to finish off corners, like a desperate man. Montilivi never had it all.
The logic that was intuited
The stadium came alive when they saw Portu and Stuani warm up, just as the second half began. As it happens, with a ton of signings and millions invested, the only ones capable of energizing the fans are the Murcian and the Uruguayan, the same old duo. They had them running down the wing for a good while, Míchel, immobile despite his poor feelings. The Vitorians, who are playing for everything, had a couple of dangerous opportunities. Before the match, they were seven points ahead, but now they're four. Van de Beek responded, forcing a good save from Sivera, and Asprilla's volley grazed the post. Girona tried, but nothing came of it either.
The desolation came with Carlos Vicente's goal, who took advantage of a lack of understanding between the two teams. It's the logical consequence of a poor Girona team and a poor Míchel, who didn't make any changes to his bench until the 68th minute, when the score was already 0-1. However, the situation hasn't changed. They could have continued playing for six months straight and things wouldn't have improved. The crisis is worse than expected.
