BarcelonaHe Donald Trump's speech before Congress this Tuesday It has become a Trumpian show full of moments designed solely for spectacle, also highlighting the enormous political polarization that has opened a chasm between Republicans and Democrats. It wasn't the traditional State of the Union address, but rather an address to the nation that US presidents typically deliver before both houses of Congress at the very beginning of their term to explain their vision for the future. Trump's vision has been made clear in his first 43 days in office, which, in his opinion, "are only the beginning" of change. For an hour and forty minutes, Trump outlined the keys to the ultra-right agenda he has already launched to cheers from the Republican caucus. Here's a compilation of some of the key moments.

Trump welcomes the letter received by Zelensky

"Russia is ready for peace"

The speech took place the day after Trump himself announced the withdrawal of military aid to Ukraine, forcing Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to take action. In a statement, Zelensky opened himself up to a partial truce that would lead to peace negotiations "under the strong leadership" of Trump, extended his hand, and expressed his willingness to sign the agreement to give the United States access to Ukraine's rare earths. Shortly afterward, in his speech, Trump "thanked" him for the letter, but did not back down from the withdrawal of military aid, simply saying that he knows "Russia is ready for peace."

Trump praises Elon Musk

"Thanks, Elon"

Another highlight of the speech was when Trump addressed billionaire and close ally Elon Musk, who was in the audience, and praised him for his spending cuts, which led to the layoffs of thousands of government workers. Musk, this time, was wearing a suit and tie. After Zelensky was criticized for not wearing a suit and tie during last Friday's meeting at the White House, Musk also decided to leave at home his usual short-sleeved shirt and hat, which he had worn until now in his public encounters with Trump.

Trump expels a congressman

One of the most tense moments of the session was the removal of Democratic Congressman Al Green from the chamber. From his seat, the man had been shouting at Trump, "You don't have a mandate to cut Medicaid." House Speaker Mike Johnson called him out and asked him to sit down, but Green maintained his protest, and Johnson had congressional staff escort him from the chamber.

Trump aims to secure the Panama Canal and make Greenland part of the U.S.

"The Panama Canal was built by Americans for Americans."

Trump has reiterated his threat to Panama and Greenland. "We will take back the Panama Canal," he repeated, even asserting that the canal "was built by Americans for Americans." "Also, a message to the people of Greenland. If you choose, we will welcome the United States. We need it for international security," he said, and further escalated the threat: "We will get it one way or another."
