In addition to allowing us to see, our eyes give expression to our gaze and face. Therefore, in the midst of the "selfie era," oculofacial aesthetics has become one of the growing ocular subspecialties, with which specialized oculoplastic ophthalmologists rejuvenate and improve the appearance of the eyes and skin. We spoke with Dr. Miguel González-Candial, an expert with more than thirty years of experience from the IMO Grup Miranza.

What is the first step to improve our appearance?

— The foundation is ensuring the patient's well-being. Therefore, before starting any treatment, I always want to know my patients' daily routines and habits. Maintaining a healthy diet, getting enough rest, and staying well hydrated are vital factors for feeling and looking good. For example, not drinking water regularly negatively affects the quality and texture of the skin, and poor sleep can lead to the appearance of glasses.

And what happens when we feel good, but we don't look good?

— This is where we, as aesthetic medicine professionals, come in. Many patients over the age of 45, often come to our center because, despite feeling young, they look older. In other cases, they don't like their appearance because some aesthetic problems are ageless and may even be present from birth. Our goal is to seek harmony and, as I mentioned, provide comprehensive care for the patient's health and well-being.

Which patients attend aesthetic consultations at IMO Grup Miranza?

— Generally, patients of all ages, both men and women. We've also noticed an increase in consultations from people who have stopped wearing glasses after undergoing cataract surgery, presbyopia, or refractive surgery, which are also procedures we frequently perform in the clinic. Getting rid of optical correction clears the upper part of the face, and this is when we focus most on aesthetic problems in the area around the eyes, such as bags and excess fat on the eyelids, dynamic wrinkles, and so on. That's why we offer treatments that help achieve a fresher look.

Are we all candidates for aesthetic treatments?

— Not everyone is a candidate for every treatment, so it's important to individualize each treatment. At IMO Grup Miranza, we tailor each treatment to each individual, aiming to offer solutions that improve the overall appearance of the face. Sometimes, to achieve optimal results, combined or complementary treatments are necessary. These also allow us to address problems affecting skin deterioration, such as spots, redness, and other imperfections.

And what are the trends for spring?

— Above all, there is growing demand for the reduction of dynamic or expression wrinkles. We achieve this with injections of neuromodulatory substances, which we apply to the frown lines, crow's feet, or forehead. Furthermore, its use is expanding for preventative purposes, making this treatment an excellent option for preparing the skin before summer arrives. Because it is minimally invasive and offers immediate and natural results, it is highly recommended for the time of year when sun exposure, which is responsible for 80% of wrinkles, intensifies.
