BYD presents the Atto 2, the cheapest compact electric SUV in its category
The Chinese brand presents a new model with 312 km of autonomy and a price of 28,780 euros
BYD continues to grow. After recently presenting models such as the Seal U and the Sealion 7, it has now announced the arrival of the Atto 2 in our country, a compact electric SUV that lands with the intention of taking sales away from models such as the MG ZS, the Ford Puma Gen-E, the Smart #1 and the Kia EV3. To achieve this it has a strong argument: the price. Available in two versions (Active Urban Edition and Boost Urban Edition), it announces a price before subtracting the discount associated with the MOVES Plan of 29,990 euros, a figure to which a promotional discount must be applied that places it at 28,780 euros from the start.
On an aesthetic level we are looking at a car with a very European design, SUV style but with contained sizes (4.31 meters long, 1.83 wide and 1.67 high) and which stands out for its sharp and stylized front. As expected, the headlights are Full LED and their horizontal arrangement, together with a front bumper that features sharp lines, details in a glossy finish and vertical air intakes at the ends, make the Atto 2 an efficient car in terms of aerodynamics and quite attractive.
The side view is highlighted by the 17-inch wheels, the high waistline and the shape of the C-pillar, which gives the impression of a floating roof, while at the rear it is the LED taillights and the prominent spoiler that take center stage.
A technological interior with quality materials
The Atto 2's cabin stands out for its spaciousness, quality finishes and large amount of technology available. It includes an 8.8-inch digital screen for the driver and another for the infotainment system, 10.1 inches in the Active version and 12.8 in the Boost. It also offers connectivity with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, wireless charging, a panoramic roof and Hi BYD voice control.
The centre console features a gear selector with a sophisticated diamond-shaped design, along with physical buttons for key functions such as volume, climate control and driving modes. All of this is done with high-quality materials (in line with the brand's latest products) and with finishes that create a premium vehicle feel inside the cabin. As for the boot, it has a capacity of 400 litres, in line with many of its rivals.
Electric and with 312 km of autonomy... for now
The BYD Atto 2 is powered by a 130 kW (177 hp) electric motor that accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.9 seconds and has a top speed of 160 km/h. The battery is the Chinese company's famous Blade Battery, which in this model has a capacity of 45.1 kWh and allows it to achieve a range of up to 463 km in the urban cycle and 312 km in the combined WLTP cycle.
To recharge, we can choose between fast charging (going from 10% to 80% in 37 minutes) or alternating current charging, which supports a maximum of 11 kW and goes from 0% to 100% in approximately 5.5 hours. However, BYD has announced that a version called Comfort will be available at the end of the year that will increase the range to 420 kilometres, although in this case the price will no longer be as competitive: 37,500 euros.
