BYD breaks the great barrier of electric cars: it charges in five minutes.
The Chinese brand BYD develops the Super e-Platform, which equates electric charging to gasoline.

BarcelonaChinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD has unveiled its new super e-platform that allows you to charge an electric car and give it up to 400 kilometers of autonomy in just five minutes, almost the same time it takes with gasoline in a normal combustion car.
The new super e-platform –which groups the engine, control electronics and battery into a single structure embedded in the chassis– has an improved maximum charging power of 1,000 volts that allows two kilometers of autonomy to be recharged per second, reaching the fastest charging speed in the world to date.
The new single-motor architecture with a power of 580 kW/789 hp will be included in the two new designs of the Chinese brand, Han L and Tang L, which will be launched in the coming months to the Chinese market only.
In addition, the super e-platform also presents the flash charging battery (BYD's Ultra-Fast Charging Battery), which enables a peak charging current of 1,000 amps. To support these high charging rates, BYD has jointly developed a new generation of silicon carbide (SiC) power chips that enable a nominal voltage of up to 1,500 volts.
"To completely eliminate charging anxiety for some users, the goal is to make EV charging as fast as charging a gasoline car and achieve fuel-electricity parity in charging speed," said BYD Chairman and Founder Wang Chuanfu.
New charging stations
BYD has also launched its first ultra-fast charging system, which the brand says will be capable of delivering a maximum power of 1,360 kW. Looking ahead, the Chinese company plans to build more than 4,000 stations with this type of charging in China, along with the development of innovative dual-charging technology that can instantly upgrade fast chargers and superchargers to ultra-fast chargers.
This new system could ultimately redefine electric mobility in the coming years. This could represent yet another step forward for China in terms of leadership in the electrification of the automotive sector. In the case of BYD, this advance could mean an assault on the top position in the 100% electric vehicle market, after selling 4.27 million units in 2024. Last year, it was only 25,000 units behind Tesla.
