Since 2012, BBVA has demonstrated, year after year, its commitment to culture and society in Catalonia. Not in vain, it has allocated 15.6 million euros to promote the social work of the foundations of the former Catalan savings banks in areas such as social inclusion, education, sustainability, entrepreneurship and culture. Throughout 2024, the activities promoted by these foundations benefited 162,000 people. Of these, more than half have participated in activities carried out within the framework of the collaboration with BBVA.

With the support of BBVA, the Fundació Antigues Caixes Catalanes promotes a line of cultural awards in areas such as literature, theater, music and illustration, with the aim of fostering talent and offering spaces for the dissemination of culture throughout Catalonia.

Among other outstanding initiatives and projects promoted by BBVA to encourage cultural events are the BBVA Dance Season of the Fundació LaFACT Factoria Social de Terrassa, which in 2024 registered 16,000 spectators, and the art-therapy project Artistic Parallels, focused on mental well-being through art. This project is developed by the Fundació Antiga Caixa Manlleu, together with Osonament, the entity that supports people with mental health problems and addictions from Vic with integrated health, social and job placement services.

In addition, BBVA collaborates with leading institutions in Barcelona, such as the Fundació Miró, the Hospital Clínic and the Institut Oncològic de Vall d'Hebron. BBVA's support for these initiatives reinforces the entity's commitment to progress and well-being in Catalonia through high-impact social projects.

Support for young writers

BBVA is strengthening its commitment to Catalan literature by announcing its support for a new youth category of the BBVA Sant Joan Prize for Catalan Literature, organized by the Fundació Antigues Caixes Catalanes. The award, which is celebrating its 45th edition in 2025, is one of the most highly endowed in its field in Catalonia.

The new category of the BBVA Sant Joan Prize for Catalan Literature is aimed at writers between the ages of 18 and 35 and seeks to foster emerging talent in Catalan-language literature, while recognizing the creativity and narrative quality of new literary voices. The prize, which will be launched in 2026, will be worth 10,000 euros and will include the publication, distribution and dissemination of the winning work through Edicions 62. In this way, BBVA reinforces its commitment to Catalan society and culture, since, together with the Fundació Antigues Caixes Catalanes, it promotes the literature of Catalan writers.

The BBVA Sant Joan Prize for Catalan literature, a benchmark in the world of letters

For BBVA, culture is the essential driving force of society. The BBVA Sant Joan Prize for Catalan literature, organized by the Fundació Antigues Caixes Catalanes and promoted by the entity since 2012, has established itself as one of the most prestigious awards in the Catalan language. The prize has a tax-free prize of 35,000 euros and Edicions 62 publishes the winning work. In 2024, Alba Gómez won the prize for the novel Jo soc la última Plaça . Now, with the announcement of a new category, the aim is to boost the creativity of young writers and encourage literary creation in the Catalan language.
