BarcelonaA 69-year-old Portuguese man has died and at least three police officers have been injured, one of them seriously, in a knife attack this Saturday in the French city of Mulhouse, in the northeast of the country and near the border with Germany. The perpetrator, a 37-year-old Algerian man who had an expulsion order from France and who was on file with the anti-terrorist services, was arrested, according to the Mulhouse prosecutor, Nicolas Heitz. The Anti-Terrorist Prosecutor's Office has opened an investigation for murder and attempted murder of persons in public authority. The French President, Emmanuel Macron, has reacted quickly and has pointed out that "without a doubt, this is an Islamist terrorist act."

The events occurred shortly before four in the afternoon, local time, in the Market Square of this Alsatian city where a demonstration was being held in support of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, a country suffering from a war. The suspect was quickly captured on a nearby street after committing the stabbing. According to authorities, the man repeatedly screamed Allah is the greatest while carrying out the attack.
