Antoni Bassas' analysis: 'Exports and separatism: the PP's situation is still a joke'

Catalonia exports €4.351 billion to the United States. It's followed by Andalusia, with €3.188 billion, and the Valencian Community, with €2.850 billion. More than 3,100 Catalan companies regularly export to the United States. And the People's Party (PP) comes out and says that Sánchez "is using a global trade crisis as a pretext to parcel out aid to suit the separatists." It's on the level of Millán Astray's "death to intelligence."

I don't need to explain to you the global economic earthquake, the change of era, that they have meant Trump's tariffs and everything that lies behind it. This morning, he even boasted about how scared countries have become, and that they are now lining up to (I quote) give him "a kiss on the ass."

Faced with the tsunami, Pedro Sánchez made a winning move: to seek a state pact with the People's Party (PP) to address the tariffs. If the PP adhered to the pact, it would strengthen the government, and if it was so clumsy as to play partisan, it would be exposed. Well, guess what happened: just when it seemed like there would be an agreement, yesterday the PP PP broke up with him under the pretext that Sánchez secretly agreed with Junts.

And what did he agree to? That 25% of state aid to companies affected by US tariffs would go to Catalonia. But it just so happens that Catalonia represents, roughly speaking, 25% of Spanish exports. And pay attention, it's the hardest hit by Trump's tariffs. Catalonia exports €4.351 billion to the United States. Andalusia comes in second, with €3.188 billion, and the Valencian Community, with €2.850 billion. More than 3,100 Catalan companies regularly export to the United States. And the PP comes out and says that Sánchez "is using a global trade crisis as a pretext to parcel out aid to suit the separatists." It's on the level of Millán-Astray's "death to intelligence." It's old, it's boring, it's indecent, all at once. And it means remaining residual in Catalonia: if you see separatism where 25% of Spanish exports are located, how can anyone believe that the PP has anything to offer that might interest Catalonia?

Good morning.
