BarcelonaAdeslas has finally decided to participate in the Muface concert to provide private health care to the 1.5 million civil servants and their families who use this coverage, as reported this Thursday in a statement. The insurer considers that with the changes introduced by the Spanish government in the tender "a viable model can be set up that allows for the continuity of the health service for Muface officials in the next three years, as has occurred throughout its almost 50 years of existence."

The company had declined to participate twice in this agreement because it considered that the conditions offered would aggravate the losses of the model. "Adeslas, acting from its responsibility as a health services provider, and positively assessing the effort made by the administration, considers that the current agreement offers fair and balanced economic conditions, as requested from the administration to guarantee its viability," said the firm owned by the Mutua Madrileña group and CaixaBank.

Insurers have until March 4 to decide whether to participate in the Muface concert, according to the specifications published at the beginning of the month. The contract has increased to around 4,808.5 million euros for the three-year duration, after adding an extra provision of 330.5 million euros in the second increase offered by the Spanish government. Specifically, the premium will increase by 41.2% compared to the current agreement. The previous offer, which was suspended, limited the increase to 33.5%.

"It is an efficient formula"

Adeslas has once again defended this Thursday a model that has also been criticised in recent months. Its detractors believe that the reasonable thing would be for civil servants to make use of public health services instead of offering them the possibility of having a private mutual insurance company. "It is an efficient formula for providing services – the cost is lower than that of the National Health System, according to all independent studies – which has offered satisfactory healthcare to members and family members who choose private insurers voluntarily," says the company in its statement.
