Twelve video games with a Catalan accent presented at the BCN Game Fest

We highlight a dozen titles from among the more than 200 proposals that could be seen at the fair, all available in Catalan.

The first edition of BCN Game FestThe event, organized by the IndieDevDay team, was a resounding success. Attendance grew to over 17,000, and the event showcased the community's international expansion with the participation of numerous studios from abroad. On the business side, more than 1,200 business meetings took place, and up to 40 events were held. publishersBoth local and international attendees were able to interact with the 180 independent studios present at the fair.

At the eighth edition of the fair, over 200 titles filled the booths, and the public could experience the studios' offerings firsthand. A few weeks after BCN Game Fest, and with an eye on the upcoming SAGA (Gaming Salon), we've compiled a list of the video games that attracted the most attention. All the games in this selection can—or will be—playable in Catalan, and although most haven't been released yet, many of them offer... demos to try them out. 'Angie Magica'

The new offering from the veteran Catalan studio, with over ten years of experience, made its first public appearance at the fair in a very welcoming booth. All Mango Protocol games share a universe and a similar art direction, under the watchful eye of co-founder Mariona Valls, but each new title is an experiment in terms of gameplay mechanics. Angie Magica, his fifth project, tries his luck with classic adventure and action in the style of the early Zelda, and introduces a new protagonist, who will have to discover the secrets of the land of Penuria.

'City of Dolorosa'

The studio, originally from Asturias, is developing its first title, which mixes elements of a visual novel and a walking game (from the English walking simulator(a genre with exploration mechanics in an interactive environment). The trio from Cuelebre Cult presents a first-person fiction that stands out for its hand-drawn art, featuring intense black ink and highly saturated, striking colors. The plot begins with the protagonist's death, which leads him to the cruelest city in Hell to experience final judgment for his sins.

'Dating Killmulator'

Coolom Games' small team, also made up of three people, takes care of everything related to their game: script, code, art and community management. Dating Killmulator It's been available for free for a while, while the studio has been adding chapters and building a solid fanbase, but now they plan a full release at the end of the year, with all the content created so far, on PC and mobile platforms. Their game is a wacky and chaotic twist on dating sims, where the player's interesting potential partners turn out to be serial killers.

The new game from veterans Undercoders, the studio led by David Jaumandreu and also creators of Koa and the Five Pirates of MaraAmong other things, it attracted a lot of attention from the fair's visitors. The Petoons Studio team, developers of Curse of the Sea Rats (a game we highlighted a few years ago talking about the rise of Catalan and Catalan-language gaming), collaborates with none other than 3Cat for his new project. Dracamar It's a platform video game for all ages that will not only be available in our language, but also encompasses Catalan culture and geography with constant references throughout its fifteen levels. The title will arrive on the main platforms on the market and invites players to discover a fantastical world inhabited by the Okis, charming creatures, through the eyes of the three young protagonists: Caliu, Foc, and Espurna. It was a finalist for best game at the fair.

'Glyphica: Typing Survival'

This minimalist game, a finalist for most innovative game at the fair, is a twist on classic typing games, but with more modern gameplay and rewarding randomness. The goal is to eliminate the hordes of enemies that besiege the player. The game is already available in Early Access on Steam and has included Catalan since September (important for a game where the main mechanic is typing), and a full release is planned for early next year.

Ripollet's friends, responsible for the successful Bread & FredThey're back with an even more outrageous and outrageous proposal. If their penguins broke up couples, with these colorful gnomes they intend to destroy entire groups of friends. Gnaughty Gnomes It's a multiplayer deathmatch game where the rules are constantly changing. The game features a wide variety of maps, weapons, upgrades, and customization options for its charismatic characters, making it a great way to spend an afternoon with friends.

After debuting with Melbits Worlda very nice cooperative game and suitable for all audiences, the new original adventure from the Barcelona studio is much wilder. GodsTV It combines the gameplay mechanics of modern action role-playing titles such as Hades With a more punk and rebellious aesthetic, and eccentric characters participating in a television program where the audience is everything. The game, also inspired by the classic SmashTVIt was funded in less than 24 hours this summer in a crowdfunding campaign, but is still accepting contributions to consider including more content ahead of launch.

The only game in the selection that has already been released is a charming puzzle game developed in Barcelona, ​​the city from which it also draws inspiration. The premise is very simple: you place the charismatic—and geometric—characters in the seats of each level, always trying to meet their needs and avoid their quirks. From a theater to a bus, the settings are very diverse, and thanks to its minimalist and cute aesthetic, the game encourages you to solve each and every one of its challenges. Available on PC, Nintendo Switch, and mobile platforms.

A fantasy-themed investigation game where the player controls a detective dog and a cat with magical powers. The game challenges players to solve a series of crimes by traveling back in time, just moments before they occur. The gameplay may remind some of the classic indie Return of the Obra DinnBut the aesthetics and plot of Just in Crime It's suitable for all audiences. Gomet Games' title won the award for best narrative among the games presented at the fair.

The study behind Worldless (the first game we knew in the IndieDevDay 2023 fair) already has a new proposal in the works, of which it was able to show a first tasting despite still being in an embryonic phase. Never/Together It's a cooperative game for two players only, like recent achievements. A platform game for the youngest members of the family, it was born at Sant Jordi Jam 2024, a competition to create game prototypes with specific themes, in this case, the legend of Saint George. The project was well-received, and its creators decided to move forward and develop it into a complete game, thanks in part to the Girona-based GameGi incubation program. The game's strongest point is its handcrafted aesthetic, a finalist for best artwork at the event, in which all the settings and characters are represented with paper figures, like animated puppets in a small theater.
