The New Year's Eve countdown is almost here: who will we be ringing in on TV in 2026?

The television lineup for 2025 ranges from well-established programs to tentative attempts at reinvention.

No surprises on public television: for the third year running, Miki Núñez and Laura Escanes will host the New Year's Eve broadcast, becoming a bit like the Catalan Cristina Pedroche and Alberto Chicote. As usual, the special will be broadcast from Maria Cristina Avenue, and the fireworks and drone show will feature a soundtrack by Marc Parrot, inspired by the four elements – air, water, earth, and fire. Núñez has also hinted at a surprise for the broadcast: he will premiere a new song and perform it for the first time with Escanes, just as they did last year when they performed together. One of the highlights of La 1's New Year's Eve programming will be the exclusive premiere of the first single of Van Gogh's Ear with the return of Amaia Monterowhich will take place a few minutes before the New Year's Eve chimes begin.

Cristina Pedroche and Alberto Chicote are the most veteran presenters this year. The pair are celebrating their tenth year together – Pedroche has done so individually for twelve years – hosting the New Year's Eve countdown, and this year they have a double responsibility, as Atresmedia has decided for the first time to broadcast it simultaneously on both Antena 3 and La Sexta. In doing so, the media group is following the strategy that Mediaset initiated years ago, when they realized that the ratings for their second channel were negligible. This year, Pedroche and Chicote will be joined by Santiago Segura, who will be a special guest. According to Atresmedia, the actor and film director will make an important announcement during his appearance on the countdown. Last year, Antena 3 lost its lead in the New Year's Eve ratings after three years as the most-watched channel nationwide, due to the success of La 1 with David Broncano and Lalachus.

At Mediaset, it seems they gave up on the battle for the New Year's Eve broadcast a long time ago. Unlike Antena 3, they haven't managed to find a duo that becomes a major draw for viewers, nor have they been able to build a narrative that captivates the audience, as their rival has done with the mystery of Pedroche's dress. This year, Mediaset has turned to Sandra Barneda, presenter of one of their flagship programs. Temptation IslandThe presenter will be paired with broadcaster Xuso Jones, who is more associated with younger audiences and is a contributor to the Cuatro program. Barcelona's public television station also has a special evening planned to ring in 2020. Candela Figueras and Anna-Priscila Magrinyà, presenters of the radio and television program, will be there.
