The mediumQuillettepublishes a piece focusing on transgender-identified shooters in the United States. It states that "the list of violent criminals who imagine they were 'born in the wrong body' is growing." The report lists five cases, but doesn't tell us how many we're talking about, and, above all, doesn't provide the necessary context to know if there are more murderers who identify as transgender because generally more people come out. The stigmatization sought by the media is evident. "Of course, if a murderer, or attempted murderer, identifies as trans, that doesn't necessarily mean that their identity is connected to their criminal motive." Well, not only does it have to be said, but this basically invalidates the entire piece. If there really is no connection, then trans murderers as a group don't exist, and therefore, the article is as sterile as talking about murderers who wear a size 41, are Taurus with a Scorpio ascendant, or eat pizza with pineapple.

This media outlet, a bastion of neoconservatism, claims that people with gender dysphoria are up to five times more likely to suffer from some mental disorder: it's the judo technique they use to float the idea that these people are more likely to kill someone. The first case they present is that of someone who had slogans on his weapons like "Let Israel burn" or "Six million weren't enough": see if this isn't more indicative of his character. Putting gender identity front and center and using half a dozen cases to link transsexuality and homicide isn't challenging political correctness but stigmatizing a group. And it treats these people as sick. We're not far from going back to demanding conversion therapies to make them fit the mold, even if it means hacking at them.
