Albert Cuesta, from ARA, awarded at The Night of Telecommunications as best disseminator
The gala celebrated this Thursday its 31st edition
BarcelonaThe leading technology journalist for l’ARA, Albert Cuesta, has received one of the sector’s highest honors, being recognized for his career as a communicator at the Telecommunications Night, held this Thursday. For more than three decades, this celebration has become the thermometer of the ICT sector in the country, and this year it adopted the slogan “From idea to industry: advancing in technological leadership”. Cuesta had already received this award in 2020 for his weekly articles in the newspaper, and for two years now, the entity organizing the event, Telecos.cat, and the college of computer scientists of Catalonia have also opened the award to individuals for their overall activity. The event was held at L'Auditori de Barcelona. Collaborator of this newspaper since issue 1, Albert Cuesta has combined the practice of journalism with digital activism, especially in achieving the strongest possible presence of Catalan in the world of technology. For example, he was the main driver of the campaign to get Twitter to have a Catalan version. Some of the print publications he has collaborated with are Sonido1, Hifimanía, Playboy, La Vanguardia, Binary, PC World, PC Plus or the newspaper Avui and also in audiovisual media such as TV3, FlaixFM, RAC1, COMRàdio, 8tv or Catalunya Ràdio. In the teaching field, he has been a professor of digital journalism at UIC (2006-2011) and also of strategic communication management at UPF (2011-2019). He is the coordinator of the Alliance for the Digital Presence of Catalan since its creation in 2023.Other awards of the night have been the young talent award, which was received by Jordina Torrents Barrena, senior artificial intelligence manager and principal architect at HP, and the entrepreneurship award, which went to Eli Abad, president of WA4STEAM. The Alan Turing Award for Social Commitment was shared ex aequo by Alicia Coca Cantos, head of business technologies at Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat, and Lourdes Muñoz Santamaría, director of Barcelona Open Data Initiative. Joan De la Paz Sánchez, CIO of the Llobregat City Council, has received the recognition for the best telecommunications executive, and Antonio González, professor at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, has obtained the Salvà i Campillo Award for outstanding personality. The list of winners is completed with the honorary award granted to the researcher in supercomputing and distributed systems at BSC Rosa Maria Badia Sala, and the recognitions given to Sinergia and Feceminte.
