"The best birthday present. The beeeest!!!", spontaneously exclaimed a girl just as she left the Antics Rentadors in Juneda in early July. It came from the heart. She was thrilled! We were too. I suspect all the attendees at the Rentadors Festival felt, more or less, the same; even if it wasn't our birthday. What a gift we had just received!
The sudden discovery of singer-songwriter Olga Zoet, the defiant performance of popular and traditional music by Les Silvestres, and the explosion of rhythms and emotions from Kelly Isaiah were the quintessence of an evening packed with local talent. Unfortunately, it's uncommon to engage all five senses and push the local scene with heart and soul (not just for show).
The gift didn't end there. The wrapping was equally key. The audience shared a collective experience that went beyond music. It's impossible not to fall in love with a beautiful setting, a welcoming atmosphere where you can tell every detail is meticulously cared for and every corner has been forged with care, passion, and affection. The antithesis of mass, impersonal cultural models with zero transformative impact, or those products of "cultural SLOPification" lacking human spirit, you know!
After a summer with a good dose of music cycles and festivals of various formats, Ponent invites us to engage in active consumption and continue enjoying live music in the autumn. Among the series of proposals with small formats as their flagship, the premiere of "Envolta't" stands out, brought to us by the cultural cooperative El Galliner. The festival will be held from September 25th to October 4th in "unique and unusual spaces in Tàrrega, to experience music with its own personality up close." With a gender-balanced lineup, Envolta't will pair seven concerts by artists from Lleida and Catalonia, both emerging and established, with zero-kilometer gastronomy. Xarim Aresté, Olga Zoet, Arnau Obiols, Borja Penalba, Virgi Energy, Mercè Segura, and Ferran Palau will delight audiences who flee large crowds and seek to discover small great treasures "up close."
