The ARA launches the best space for games and hobbies in Catalan.
The portal improves classic games and adds signature entertainment such as the synonym race, hieroglyphics, and the popular culture quiz.
More games, more original, and more adapted to mobile. This summer, the ARA improves and expands its hobby website language with four new games. The popular success of activities such as Trobamot and Crosswords on the ARA website, which are among the most viewed content every day, added to the readership that the Saturday games supplement, the Capficated, has led the newspaper to double down on its games portal with four signature puzzles, in addition to the four we already had.
These are exclusive games, with daily updates, created by the enigmatic artists of La Punta de la Lengua, Cesc Mayor and Eloi Isern, and which maintain their two trademarks: modern design and linguistic sarcasm. One of their emblems is hieroglyphics. Each day, you can decipher one of these visual puzzles, which have varying degrees of difficulty for experts and laymen alike. Another game is the Synonym Race, which each week will test your vocabulary. The chain of words to be collected will be timed to add tension to the game and enhance mental agility as a personal challenge. The third author's game will be Fora de test, a weekly 10-question survey on popular culture, which can directly address linguistic topics or other issues, such as geography, history, current events, or Catalan culture. "We have found that through language games and puzzles we can talk about all possible topics, from climate change to Easter eggs," explain the creators of La Punta de la Lengua, who have been testing it in recent months with the supplement. Capficated, where they have addressed topics such as the election of Donald Trump or the selectivity tests.
The fourth new game, which is optimal for mobile use, is the Crossword Puzzle, the mini version of Señor Ventura's crossword puzzles, more affordable than his magnificent Crossword Puzzles that already appear daily. Along with the new Sudokus—which have improved usability and even offer the option of pencil tests—–, Trobamot and Amagamots are our four unbeatable classics.
ARA thus expands its commitment specifically designed to promote the use and richness of Catalan, one of the founding commitments of the newspaper that has been reinforced with more informative content, opinions, a specific digital section, a newsletter and other activities related to culture and language. This summer, the ARA will also have you thinking and sharpening your wits with this play area that will offer entertainment, culture, and good humor every day. Good luck!
