"Speak Catalan, damn it!": the scolding of a grandmother to her 'influencer' grandson that has gone viral

"Speak Catalan, damn it!" said the grandmother of Miki Fonde, an influencer who has accumulated nearly 30,000 followers on Instagram, in the middle of a cooking video that has gone viral on social media. The young man is filming a recipe from his grandmother—bread with sobrassada, a little honey, two eggs, and beaten egg white—when she asks him who he is talking to. When she discovers that he is addressing a "massive audience," she asks him in a very expressive way to do it in Catalan.

Fonde begins explaining the recipe in Spanish while his grandmother, sitting on the sofa, intervenes, but in Catalan. At one point in the video, she asks him: "And who are you telling all this to?" "I am talking to a massive audience," the grandson replies. It is then that Maria lets out the phrase that ends up becoming the most viral moment of the video: "I didn't know that... Speak Catalan, damn it!", the grandmother snaps.

As can be seen in the video, the influencer takes the scolding with humor and listens to the grandmother: he finishes the video in Catalan, recommending that his followers save the recipe and prepare it at home. Fonde, furthermore, also announces that he will make a new video cooking his grandmother's dish.

The scene has exceeded half a million views between Instagram and TikTok in just two days and has generated hundreds of comments, both of support and criticism, as well as debate over the use of Catalan and Spanish on social media. Some users have even proposed turning the phrase into a t-shirt.
