Trump states that the US "will take control of Cuba almost immediately"
The US president raises the tone of threats, but says he wants to finish the "work" in Iran first
BarcelonaTrump intensifies pressure on Cuba. The President of the United States, Donald Trump, assured early this morning that he “would take control” of Cuba “almost immediately”, but that he first wants to finish the “job” in Iran. Trump made these statements during his intervention as the main speaker at a private dinner of the Forum Club in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Trump warned that once he had finished in Iran, he could have the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, the largest in the world, travel to the Caribbean and “stop about 100 meters from the coast” of Cuba, from where the islanders, according to his speech, would say “much thanks, we surrender”.
This same Friday, the Trump Administration increased sanctions against the island, measures that target the pillars of the Cuban economy, especially the energy, defense, mining, and financial services sectors. According to the executive order signed on Friday, any person or company operating or doing business with the Government of Havana will have their assets in the U.S. completely blocked.
Also this week, Secretary of State Marco Rubio accused Cuba of facilitating the presence of intelligence services of the United States’ “adversaries” just 90 miles from its territory and assured that President Donald Trump’s Administration will not tolerate it. And on Tuesday, the Senate rejected a Democratic proposal to limit the possible military operations that Trump may order on Havana.
Since January, the Trump Administration has intensified pressure on Havana with an oil blockade, and the President has on several occasions suggested the need for a regime change on the island.
