Trump says he will "probably" take "control of the strait" of Hormuz

Iranian forces warn the countries of the region that any collaboration with the US will be considered an act of war against Tehran

WashingtonDonald Trump stated this morning in an interview with Fox that "we will probably take the strait. And we will become the guardians of the strait." The American president, who last week declared a ceasefire over, said that in this way he will be able to "reimburse" the cost of assuming the task of becoming the guardian angel of the strait.

The Republican's words come after crossfire in the region has reactivated with new Iranian attacks on US military bases in other Gulf countries. Early this morning, Tehran announced that it had launched a new wave of missiles against American positions in Jordan, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Oman. Hours earlier, the US Army's Central Command (Centcom) had also reported a new barrage of bombings against Iranian territory with the aim of weakening its capabilities to block maritime traffic through the strait.

In the interview with Fox, Trump suggested that they will continue bombing Iran in response to its attacks against commercial ships passing through Hormuz.

Iranian forces have warned the US that any attempt to pass through the Strait of Hormuz without their permission will be "harshly confronted." The preliminary agreement signed between Washington and Tehran in June – and which is now worthless – had caused friction between the two parties, as the wording suggested that control of the maritime passage remained in the hands of the Iranians and Omanis. But meanwhile, the United States had been insisting that the strait was open to all ships.

The Iranian army command has also warned the leaders of the region's countries that "any cooperation with the United States will be considered war against Iran."

In parallel, the ayatollahs and the hardline wing of the regime have shown themselves more inclined to take revenge against the United States for the assassination of the former supreme leader Ali Khamenei.
