Trump attacks Spain again and now says he is considering withdrawing troops

The US president said it after threatening to do so with Germany and Italy

WashingtonDonald Trump has once again lashed out at Spain, and this time, he has raised the tone a bit higher. The US president said this Thursday from the Oval Office that he will "probably" withdraw the US troops deployed in Spanish bases. "Why shouldn't I?" the magnate said after a journalist asked him if he was thinking of doing with Italy and Spain what he has already done with Germany. Last night, Trump posted on Truth Social where he threatened Berlin with withdrawing troops. "The United States is studying and analyzing the possible reduction of troops in Germany and a decision will be made in the short term," Trump said.

After threatening to punish NATO allies who have not helped him with the Iran war and threatening to unilaterally abandon the defense treaty, Trump is now trying another alternative: withdrawing troops. Currently, the United States has soldiers deployed at the bases in Rota (where there are about 6,000) and in Morón, where there are about 500.

"Italy has been of no help to us and Spain has been terrible," Trump stated, once again criticizing the lack of collaboration in the Iran war and the refusal to contribute 5% to NATO. At the beginning of the conflict, the Moncloa government had a notable clash with the White House over whether the US military was using Spanish bases or not. The Spanish Foreign Minister, José Manuel Albares, had to deny it live to Trump's government spokeswoman, Karoline Leavitt.
