The history of the Train de Aragua

The organization's history begins two decades ago. A train was to connect Aragua with Carabobo, two states in Venezuela. The project began in 2005 and a workers' union took full control of job assignments. They soon became corrupt and began to extort contractors. When the construction of the tracks was paralyzed in 2011, the union was already considered a criminal gang: the Tren de Aragua.

This was the criminal seed of a group that consolidated just over a decade ago in the Tocorón prison, east of Aragua, which extorted inmates and controlled the entry of drugs into the penitentiary. And the leadership of Niño Guerrero emerged. Héctor Guerrero Flores was imprisoned in 2013 and forged ties with the internal unionists. There were increasingly more members with tattooed locomotives and messages like "son of God" all over their bodies. The Tren de Aragua has committed murders, kidnappings, and attacks, and has taken a very active role in human and drug trafficking towards the United States. The cartel expanded throughout Venezuela, Chile, Colombia, and Peru, and reached the USA. Now, it is considered one of the most active mafias in the world.
