The incident took place around six in the afternoon (local time) in the city center, near the iconic Space Needle, and the police have already arrested a suspect, according to informed in a statement the mayor, Katie Wilson.
The festival, the Bite of Seattle, is one of the city's largest and was hosting thousands of people at the time of the shootings. "It's been absolute chaos," explained a 25-year-old witness in statements to the The Seattle Times. Police are investigating the facts and, beyond the official confirmation of the person in custody, the motives for the shooting have not been revealed.
"Police are investigating a shooting. There are several victims. Shots were fired at Seattle Center. We will provide more information. Please avoid the area," the city's police department wrote in a message on X hours ago.
In any case, Deputy Police Chief Tyrone Davis has not ruled out further arrests and revealed that two firearms were found at the scene. He admitted, however, that at least two people who shot each other could have been involved in the incident.
The United States has recorded 268 shootings this year involving four or more victims, not counting the attacker, according to the count by the civilian organization Gun Violence Archive, reports the Efe agency.
