BarcelonaA spectacular video has captured the moments after the massive explosion at a gas station in southeastern Rome this Friday, which also caused a fire and left a large column of smoke visible from various locations in the city.
According to the latest official report, there are at least 45 injured, including 11 police officers, 1 carabiniere, and 6 firefighters. The death toll is likely to rise throughout the day.
The powerful explosion, heard throughout the city, occurred around 8 a.m. in the Prenestino neighborhood, in the southeast of the capital. Initial speculation suggests that firefighters were alerted by a truck that crashed into a pipeline, according to local media.
Up to ten firefighter crews were dispatched to the scene of the explosion and are still trying to control the blaze and ensure the safety of the surrounding area. Debris from the structure was found scattered up to 300 meters from the gas station, and several nearby buildings were damaged.
