The soldier shot in Washington dies, and Trump announces a "permanent" suspension of immigration from the "third world."

BarcelonaSarah Beckstrom, the 20-year-old soldier shot on Wednesday in Washington Along with another member of the National Guard, he died in the last few hours from his injuries. This was announced early this morning (Catalan time) by US President Donald Trump, who stated that the other wounded man, 24-year-old Andrew Wolfe, remains in critical condition and "fighting for his life." Trump referred to the suspect arrested after the attack, 29-year-old Afghan Rahmanullah Lakanwal, as a "savage monster," and declared: "This atrocity reminds us that we have no higher national security priority than ensuring our complete control over people who come here illegally," he added. The US president, however, did not stop there. In a subsequent post on the social network Truth Social, in which he wished everyone a happy Thanksgiving, he asserted that he would "permanently" stop immigration from "all Third World countries." In the same message, he added that his administration will end "all federal benefits and subsidies for non-citizens" and will expel "anyone who is not a net asset to the United States."

Hours earlier, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services had already announced a "rigorous review" of green cards (the so-called green cardsof 19 nationalities from "countries of concern," including Cuba, Venezuela, Haiti, and also Afghanistan, from where the alleged Washington shooter arrived in 2021. He is currently in custody and in critical condition. In recent days, Trump has already used Lakanwal's origin to blame the Joe Biden administration for the shooting, claiming it "allowed entry [...] of unknown and unverified aliens from all over the world."

The attack on the two soldiers on Wednesday took place on a corner of Farragut Square, just a few meters from the White House. "The animal who shot the two National Guard members [...] is also seriously injured, but nevertheless, he will pay a very high price," the president warned shortly afterward on Truth Social.
