The last woman executed in the United Kingdom receives a conditional posthumous pardon

Ruth Ellis, the last woman executed in the United Kingdom, has received a conditional posthumous pardon commuting the death sentence imposed on her in 1955 to a life sentence. British Justice Secretary David Lammy noted that the decision "does not mean she was innocent".
