The Japanese government loses its majority in the Senate

The Japanese government led by Shigeru Ishiba suffered a setback in Sunday's midterm elections, losing its Senate majority. The coalition of the Liberal Democratic Party and the Buddhist Komeito Party was left with 47 seats, short of the 50 required for a majority.
