The British ultra leader revalidates the seat of the Clacton constituency in a by-election boycotted by the main parties
Nigel Farage revalidated his seat in the House of Commons this Friday for the constituency of Clacton, in eastern England, with 22,239 votes, more than the 21,225 he obtained in the general elections of 2024. Turnout was 44%. The far-right leader, of Reform UK, had triggered the by-election after resigning as an MP in July, amidst an investigation into alleged irregularities in the declaration of donations.
The main British parties have boycotted the vote, which Farage had presented as a plebiscite between the electors of Clacton and the "establishment". The electoral race had 34 candidates, among them the peculiar "Trash Can Count", known in English as Count Binface and whose real name is Jon Harvey, one of the best-known satirical candidates in the United Kingdom, who obtained 9,455 votes and came second.
The victory, however, does not close the scrutiny over the finances of the leader of Reform UK. The parliamentary investigation, which had been suspended following his resignation, will now resume with his return to Westminster. In this way, Farage has won the plebiscite he himself provoked, but has not managed to make the problem that led him to call it disappear.
