BarcelonaAt least seven people have died and ten more have been injured in a shooting in the Karak Governorate, in Jordan, where several armed men opened fire during a funeral at a church. Survivors have explained that they heard an explosion as a funeral was beginning, after which several armed and masked men burst into the church and began to shoot. The public television station Al-Mamlaka has reported that security forces have deployed to the Hamoud church and are searching for two suspects who, according to initial reports, got out of a vehicle before opening fire.

Khaled Burqan, one of the attendees at the funeral, explained to the media that dozens of people were participating in the procession. According to his testimony, one of the attackers was carrying a handgun and the other, a rifle. At the moment, no one has claimed responsibility for the attack and the Jordanian authorities have not identified those responsible.

These types of attacks are extremely unusual in Jordan. Christians represent a minority of the Jordanian population, of about 11.5 million inhabitants, although the country is home to various biblical sites that attract Christians from all over the world.
