Girona / L'Escala / PeraladaSummer is the time of year when you most want to go out for lunch or a drink on a terrace with a great view. We suggest four of Girona's coastal and inland regions.

1.

The Mill of the Scale

A terrace on the coast away from the hustle and bustle of the sea and five minutes from the town

The El Molí de l'Escala Gastronomic Hotel is located in a spectacular Romanesque farmhouse with more than twenty-three centuries of history, which still preserves elements from the 12th, 17th, and 19th centuries. At the helm of the hotel and the kitchen is the prestigious chef Jordi Jacas, who in 2000, after training in various kitchens, took over the reins of the family business, which had begun operating as a restaurant in September 1994.

In this idyllic setting, you can savor the extraordinary quality of the cuisine, based on a perfect balance between local produce, quality, and the creativity of its dishes. With captivating presentation, the dishes captivate diners not only with their flavor but also with their originality. And among the products served, some are as locally sourced as those grown by Jordi Jacas Sr. over his eighty-plus years in the garden located at the Gastronomic Hotel itself.

El Molí de l'Escala has been considered one of the Empordà's leading restaurants for years. It's located at the entrance to L'Escala, which removes it from the hustle and bustle of the seafront, especially during the summer months. However, it's still a five-minute walk from the town. The privileged setting of El Molí de l'Escala also makes it a magnificent setting for weddings and all kinds of events, and it offers catering services at various venues, such as the Girona Auditorium. Roser, Jordi Jacas's mother, who loved the farmhouse and left us prematurely, wasn't able to see what the El Molí de l'Escala Gastronomic Hotel has become, but its presence endures.

The Ultonia terrace

The best sunset in Girona

On Saint John's Day in 1962, the Hotel Ultonia, the first three-star hotel in Girona, opened. On the same day, 59 years later, the Ultonia Terrace reopened after a thorough and extensive renovation. The terrace, however, had already been inaugurated a few years earlier, in 2021. The menu eschews the spirit of classic cocktails and offers a signature cocktail style inspired by the essence of the Costa Brava. It is open to the public, based on the signature recipes of local master mixologists, specially selected to pair with the year. Cocktails such as Devesa, Gerión, Mandarina Splash, Magma, Green Hop, and up to nine signature cocktails are added to the usual ones such as the Cosmopolitan, Bloody Mary, and Tequila Sunrise. The menu also features a wide variety of gin and tonics, whiskeys, and rums, as well as a wide selection of non-alcoholic cocktails.

All this in a relaxed atmosphere and a magnificent space with views of the Barri Vell district and the cathedral, making the Ultonia Terrace an excellent place to hold events and group meetings while enjoying the best sunset in Girona. In addition to the wide range of drinks, the Ultonia Terrace also offers a good tapas menu and delicious signature sandwiches.
