The Israeli government's response to Hamas's acceptance of the terms of the latest ceasefire proposal—a sixty-day truce—which the terrorist organization had initially rejected, has been implacable: Netanyahu has mobilized 60,000 citizen reservists in the city to carry out the conditions of the conquest. And, without further delay, the assault began this Wednesday night.

The spiral of radicalization in Tel Aviv seems unstoppable. If anyone—starting with Hamas but continuing, at the other end of the drama, with the families of the hostages—believed that this gesture of accepting the ceasefire would put the Israeli prime minister in a difficult position, it has now been seen that it was the slightest bit of trouble. Not even the doubts expressed by Israeli army commanders (current and former) serve to stop the destructive voracity in Gaza that always drives the Netanyahu government, which isn't content with the siege of hunger it is only half-disguisedly inflicting on the entire Strip. It wants a total, annihilating military victory.

The objective is clear: to sweep the population south, make their lives impossible, confine them to refugee camps. In fact, right now, it's unknown where they'll go. And thus, to operatively and definitively suffocate what little remains of the Hamas structure. In the face of this, no humanitarian scruple counts. Neither the UN, nor the growing pressure from Europe and global NGOs, nor the shocking images of children dying from attacks and lack of food. None of this is stopping Israel's clearly genocidal program. At this point in the conflict, the helplessness and inhuman suffering of Gazans have reached unimaginable proportions. With the unwavering complicity of Donald Trump's United States, Netanyahu seems able to indulge in anything, without any moral limits.

The plan to occupy Gaza City, a devastated city still populated by a million people (some of whom returned from the south in January, when a ceasefire was reached), which was to be approved this Thursday by the Israeli security cabinet, has been underway since yesterday. Although it may seem impossible, the war could now have an even bloodier phase for hundreds of thousands of civilians.

Mobilization orders for Israeli reservists will arrive in the coming days, and those called up to the army will have a maximum of two weeks to enlist. This contingent will join the more than 70,000 soldiers already operating in different sectors of the Strip. The name chosen for the Gaza City offensive is Chariots of Gideon II. In 1948, during the Nakba (the expulsion of Palestinians from their lands and homes following the founding of the State of Israel), there was a Gideon operation in Bet-Xean, a town in the northern district of Israel. The historical continuity is evident.
