Veolia will invest around 1,000 million until 2030

The company, which will continue to be a leader in water, will increase its presence in businesses like waste and energy

BarcelonaVeolia, the French multinational that controls 70% of Aigües de Barcelona, plans to invest around 1 billion euros in Spain until 2030, an average of 200 million per year, according to the company's head in the State, Daniel Tugues.

He also stated that the group, which submitted a bid for the water concession for around 1 billion in eight municipalities in the metropolitan area (Cervelló, Corbera de Llobregat, la Palma de Cervelló, Molins de Rei, Sant Andreu de la Barca, Sant Cugat del Vallès, Ripollet and Tiana), has achieved the objectives it set for itself at the end of last year. Among these, the unification of brands under the name Veolia stands out, which has led to the disappearance of names such as Agbar or Sorea and up to 93 subsidiaries that the company has.

Its plans include increasing revenues in Spain, its fourth most important market after France, the United States, and very similar to Germany, by up to 40% by 2030. Last year it reached 3 billion, which already represented a leap from 2.626 billion in 2023. In the first quarter of the current financial year, it has achieved a turnover of 711 million, which represents an increase of 3.2%. Of the 18,800 employees the company has in Spain, 5,400 work in Catalonia.

Acquisitions

Although the water business will continue to be the most important for the group, in the stage of new investments and possible acquisitions, activities that the company wants to promote will stand out, such as valorization (circular economy), especially in the area of waste; or energy, extending its leadership in efficiency to the real estate sector, the public sector, and industry. In recent years, Veolia has made thirteen acquisitions of other businesses to gain dimension in the country.

And he recalled that, according to some studies, the impact of extreme weather events amounted to a cost of 12.2 billion last year and that this could increase to 34.819 billion by 2029.

Among the investments made last year, Tugues has highlighted the Hubgrade in Granollers, a platform and part of a network of operational centers, dedicated to urban resilience, which is the company's 17th across the territory.
