Fuel aggravates tension in prices and raises inflation to 3.5% in Catalonia
The tension in the fuel market caused by the war in the Middle East continues to put pressure on consumers' pockets. As confirmed this Thursday by the Spanish government, diesel has become expensive enough during the month of July to reinstate the hydrocarbon tax reduction to 20 cents per liter.
According to the data corresponding to the Consumer Price Index for the seventh month of the year published by the INE, diesel has soared by 15.7% year-on-year, above the threshold established by the decree of measures to alleviate the effects of the war in Iran. Thus, the tax bonus moves away from the five cents planned for this month and returns to the original amount.
General inflation, according to data published by the INE this Thursday, has risen to 3.5% in Catalonia, driven mainly by the transport segment, in which fuels have particular weight. The increase in the electricity bill has also weighed on the calculation. Regarding Spanish data, the final CPI for July has climbed one tenth compared to the provisional data published at the end of last month, to 3.6%.
