BarcelonaAccording to the City Police, approximately 800 people gathered this Saturday morning in Barcelona's Plaça Sant Jaume to protest against the expansion of El Prat Airport. Demonstrators protested the enclave's expansion with chants such as "Land for planting, not for landing," "Your expansion is an aberration," and "PSC, a suicidal climate party."

"Just a start"

In statements to the media, Zeroport representatives Jaume Osete and Claudia Custodio warned that this protest "is just the beginning" of a cycle of mobilizations "of all kinds" to stop the project. The organizers expressed their conviction that they will succeed in stopping the expansion, as they claim they did in 2021, when it was first proposed. In this context, they have called on political parties to "take an open position" on the matter. Optimistic, they emphasized that they had already succeeded in preventing it from going ahead in 2021 and now they will do so again.

They asserted that Barcelona is the "most crowded tourist destination in the world" and warned that an expansion of El Prat Airport could doom the future of Catalonia.

To conclude the rally, they handed out pamphlets with the organization's demands to the attendees, which they transformed into paper airplanes and launched at the facade of the Generalitat (Generalitat) building.
