Salvat laboratories will move all their production from Esplugues to Alcalá de Henares
The Catalan pharmaceutical company, which will negotiate a geographical mobility agreement with the workers, plans to carry out the move from now until 2030

The Catalan family pharmaceutical company has decided to concentrate its entire production capacity at the factory it has in Alcalá de Henares, in Madrid. The move from the Esplugues de Llobregat plant will be progressive until 2030, according to its new strategic plan approved in July. The company is open to negotiating possibilities of geographical mobility for its staff "responsibly, maintaining dialogue with the legal representatives of the workers during the different phases of the transition".
At the same time, the family group highlights that it will maintain its corporate headquarters, central offices, and research and development (R&D) activity in Esplugues de Llobregat. Salvat frames the initiative as "a change in industrial model". The essential objective is to "strengthen competitiveness and have a more robust, efficient industrial platform prepared to accompany long-term growth plans". With this goal, the company will progressively concentrate its manufacturing capabilities for solids, liquids, and sterile liquids at its industrial complex in Alcalá de Henares.
This evolution will allow for "integrating the group's main production and operational capabilities in a single location, following its roadmap defined until 2030 and progressively moving the manufacturing currently carried out in Esplugues de Llobregat, where it will maintain its corporate headquarters, central offices, and R&D activity". The group, which has already exceeded 100 million euros in turnover, expects to launch a drug in the United States and another in China this year. The group has about 50 people dedicated to R&D, an area in which it invests about five million annually. It is highly focused on ophthalmology and otolaryngology. One of the activities the company intends to boost is production for third parties (CDMO).
The Alcalá de Henares plant is consolidating itself as one of Salvat's main strategic assets and as the group's industrial hub for the next stage of growth. The industrial complex in the Madrid town has a plant dedicated to the manufacturing of non-sterile solids and liquids and a second plant specialized in the production of sterile liquids, both in Blow-Fill-Seal (BFS) technology and in multi-dose formats. The latter, authorized by the FDA (the pharmaceutical sector regulator in the USA) to supply the North American market, has a production capacity of over 250 million vials per year. Salvat bought the factory from Sigma Tau in 2017 and carried out an expansion next to it in 2020.
Internal reorganization
The consolidation of the industrial platform is part of the transformation that Salvat is promoting "to build a more agile, efficient and competitive organization, endowed with the capabilities necessary to respond to the growing demands of the pharmaceutical industry". To carry out this evolution, Salvat has initiated a geographical mobility process for the positions in the Esplugues operations area. The company will address this transition through a process of dialogue.
