BarcelonaWhen the Government already has on the table the project to expand El Prat and begins to take the first steps, the different political groups They have not been able to agree on the future of the airport In a monographic debate on infrastructure held throughout this week in the Catalan parliament, one of the clearest proposals was that of Esquerra (the Catalan Left), which criticized the expansion project as "incompatible with a public policy committed to protecting health," as MP Jordi Albert reminded Health Minister Olga Pané.

The proposal failed to pass, with 102 votes against and only 30 in favor. The mayor of Castelldefels, Manuel Reyes, of the PP (People's Party), who has always spoken out against the expansion, did not vote. Other proposals against the expansion, presented by the Comuns (Communist Party) and the CUP (Cup), also failed to garner enough votes for approval.

On the other hand, proposals in favor of one of the flagship projects of Salvador Illa's government were also unsuccessful. The PSC (Spanish Socialist Workers' Party) focused on the development of Barcelona's airport and port, but failed to win over the Catalan Parliament. The regional council members called for greater capacity to attract intercontinental flights to El Prat through the expansion, but the resolution failed to pass, as did the PP's, which advocated for the same, in addition to calling for the acceleration of the works (which are scheduled for completion in 2033).

The chamber, completely divided, did not even vote in favor of being the one to decide on projects like this. "Any expansion or new infrastructure in Catalonia that has a significant economic, environmental, or social impact must be decided in the Catalan Parliament," stated one of the resolutions presented by the CUP (Cup). It only received 12 votes in favor – out of 135.
