How long does it take the Treasury to return your rent money?
Once the declaration has been filed, the collection should not exceed six months.

BarcelonaWith the 2025 Income Tax campaign underway, many taxpayers are wondering how long it takes the Treasury to pay if the tax return is due. Although the legal deadline can be up to six months, the reality is that most citizens receive their income in much less time. Below, we analyze the official deadlines, the factors that can affect the refund, and which taxpayers are most likely to receive their income sooner.
To receive the income as soon as possible, the first key is to confirm the draft tax return quickly, since the sooner we do so, the more numbers there will be for the Treasury to issue the payment quickly. In most cases, it will do so between two and three business days after filing the tax return. However, the public agency allows a much longer timeframe to make the payment: the Tax Agency has a six-month window from the filing date.
And what happens if the money doesn't arrive within the established deadline? The first step, then, is access the electronic headquarters of the Ministry of FinanceFrom there, you can check the status of the refund by accessing the file from the draft processing service. It will indicate whether the payment has been made or not. If it is recorded as made, it could be that the payment details provided during the application were incorrect, and therefore the money was not received. However, if the Tax Agency had not initiated the process, the payment would be made with interest of 4.06% in favor of the taxpayer.
It should be noted that in most cases, the Treasury notifies you by SMS or email that the refund is in progress. Once the notification is received, the payment is usually made within 15 days.
