BarcelonaFuel prices began 2026 continuing the downward trend that began in December, marking their fifth consecutive week of decline and accumulating a drop of almost 5%. Specifically, in the last week of 2025, the average price per liter of gasoline fell by 0.76% to €1.44, bringing the total decrease since the beginning of December to 3.29%, according to data from [source missing]. The average price of a liter of diesel also saw its fifth consecutive decrease, falling 0.93% compared to the previous week, to €1.387, accumulating a 4.74% drop in the last month.

For gasoline, one would have to go back to before the outbreak of the war in Ukraine to find a lower price – the last week of September 2021 – although it is true that, with the subsidies that were forcibly applied during the energy crisis, the price fluctuated. For diesel, this week's €1.387 per liter is the lowest level since mid-June.

Thus, filling an average 55-liter diesel tank costs €76.28, about €3.08 less than at the start of last year, when it cost around €79.36. As for gasoline vehicles, filling an average tank (55 liters) currently costs around €79.20, about €4.67 less than a year ago, when it exceeded €83.87.

Furthermore, for another week, the average price per liter of diesel remains below the levels it was at before the outbreak of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which began on February 24, 2022, when it was €1.479 per liter. Gasoline, meanwhile, also remains below the price of €1.591 per liter it had at that time. Furthermore, both fuels remain far from the peak prices recorded in July 2022, when gasoline reached €2.141 and diesel €2.10. Diesel has now been cheaper than gasoline for 148 weeks. This maintains the price level typical before the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which caused diesel to be more expensive than gasoline continuously from August 2022 until mid-February 2023, when this trend reversed. Cheaper than in the EU

At these levels, the price of 95-octane unleaded gasoline in Spain remains below the European Union average of €1.594 per liter and the Eurozone average of €1.644. Diesel prices in Spain are also lower than the EU average of €1.526 and the Eurozone average of €1.547.
