Chinese robots that threaten the United States
The manufacturer Unitree shoots up 460% on its stock market debut
BarcelonaChinese robot manufacturer Unitree has debuted on the Shanghai stock exchange – on the STAR market, popularly known as the Chinese Nasdaq – with a 460% revaluation of its shares. At the close of Wednesday's session, the company's stock reached 845 yuan (108 euros), more than quintupling the initial amount of 150.8 yuan (19.3 euros) set in its initial public offering.
With its stock market debut, Unitree has managed to raise nearly 6.1 billion yuan (781 million euros) by selling its shares. Considering the price paid per share, the company has achieved an approximate valuation of 337 billion yuan (around 43 billion euros).
The Asian technology group, founded in 2016 under the official name of Yushu Technology, reported in its stock market exit document that in 2025 it obtained a net profit attributable to it of 278 million yuan (36 million euros) and operating income of almost 1.7 billion yuan (218 million euros). Its main business is the sale of robots, both quadruped and humanoid. In this regard, the company sold 33,294 quadruped robots and 5,632 humanoid robots between 2023 and 2025.
Unitree's IPO is reminiscent of the debut three weeks ago by China's largest chip manufacturer, ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT), which listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange, achieving the second largest listing of the history of the Asian giant. On that occasion, the company's shares revalued by 466%, placing it as the most valuable company in China, ahead of tech giants like the American Intel.
On the US blacklist
At the end of last July, the United States Federal Communications Commission (FCC) added foreign-made robotic devices to its blacklist because it considered them to represent "unacceptable risks to U.S. national security or the security of American citizens".
Equipment listed in this classification is prohibited from FCC authorization, which, in practice, prevents the entry of new devices into the North American market.
