BarcelonaAmazon has invested 5,000 million euros in Catalonia in the last 10 years and currently employs more than 8,000 workers. The multinational calculates that since 2016, when it opened the Castellbisbal center, it has contributed more than 4,000 million to the Catalan gross domestic product (GDP). This is data provided by the company at an event at Foment del Treball, where it reviewed some aspects of its decade in Catalonia.

Amazon and Catalonia: innovation, talent, and shared futureAt the event "Amazon and Catalonia: innovation, talent and shared future", Díaz also detailed that since they arrived in Spain in 2011, they have invested 20,000 million euros and employ 28,000 permanent employees from more than a hundred nationalities. The employment figure does not take into account the "tens of thousands" of workers they hire during "peak" demand and the employees of SMEs that provide services to the multinational, among others. "We are the company that has created the most jobs in Spain in the last five years," assured the Amazon executive.

Less than six months ago, the multinational carried out a workforce adjustment plan that affected 791 employees at its Barcelona offices. The new wave of global layoffs announced by the company, of 16,000 people, is not expected to affect Spain. In Catalonia, Díaz recalled that there are about 3,700 SMEs that use Amazon to market their products, 21% of the total in Spain, and that export products worth more than 340 million euros. The executive defended that their "commitment" to Catalan small and medium-sized enterprises "goes beyond" the sales service.
