Writer Jordi Sanglas dies at age 46
The author, born in Vic in 1979, published his only novel, '100,000 candles', in 2013
BarcelonaThe writer, screenwriter, and contributor to fanzines and publications underground Jordi Sanglas has died suddenly at the age of 46. Born in Vic in 1979, Sanglas made his name as a writer in 2013 in the then-young Males Herbes publishing house with the novel 100,000 candles.
It was the fifth book in the catalog, and it told the story of a young man, Adelmar, who flees to a secluded corner of the Costa Brava after a breakup, hoping to see UFOs. An introspective novel and a powerful yet lyrical generational portrait, it will go down in history as Sanglas's only work. He was given a heartfelt farewell this Friday by the publisher's founders, Ramon Mas and Ricard Planas: "It's very difficult to say this. The pain is immense. The sadness profound. Jordi Sanglas, the utopian and an inexhaustible source of inspiration, has died tonight." 100,000 candles"Now a cult classic, it was the publisher's fifth book. A marvel about fleeting youth and the impossibility of holding onto the magic of adolescence, a poetic chronicle of an escape filled with light and sadness. The foundational book of this hazy and wounded, intense and mythical chapter of Vic, which we have since encountered in the works of later authors. A type of literature that, at that time, in the Catalan context, was not being written. Because Jordi wrote with the courage of pioneers, as if every sentence had to be tattooed on your heart."
Besides writing 100,000 candlesJordi Sanglas collaborated on various publications, worked as a camera operator, wrote scripts for documentaries, and created the series Croatian and Rosaparks for the Local Television Network.
