The Teatre Condal premieres "a comedy that works like clockwork"
Xavier Ricart directs the vaudeville 'A brilliant idea', by Frenchman Sébastien Castro
BarcelonaAfter the success of the musical Blood brothersThe Condal Theatre in Barcelona will host the comedy from March 19th A brilliant idea, by French author Sébastien Castro, starring Lluís Villanueva, Xavi Mira, Anna Azcona and Susanna Garachana (who also adapted the play), and directed by Xavier Ricart. "I'm especially excited to present A brilliant idea!"Because it contains two elements that make it a very interesting proposition. On the one hand, it's a company with professionals who are true experts in the genre and who have proven they have a firm grasp on the audience. On the other hand, this is a text that can already be considered a comedy classic; it has already triumphed in France and now arrives at the Condal stage," says Daniel Anglès, artistic director of the Teatre Condal, where the play will run until April 19. Xavier Ricart echoes Daniel Susanna Garachana's words regarding his adaptation work. He affirms that he didn't make a mistake with the casting and says he is "happy with the effort" they made, and he is grateful that the Teatre Condal allowed them to work in their space from day one. "It's not easy to do comedy; it requires surrounding yourself with a good team." "The comedy's only message is that people can come and enjoy themselves, have a good time, and forget about what's happening outside," Ricart explains.
Enjoyment is precisely what Xavi Mira says he experiences as an actor in this play. "The rehearsals have been a lot of fun, and that will translate to the audience, Azcona for the first time." A brilliant idea! It has allowed her to return to comedy. "The last time was eighteen years ago, with Joan Pera and in that same theater," recalls the actress, who defends the show as a production that has all the elements to seduce audiences of any age. "I feel very happy to share the stage with these brown beasts "I feel like I've done a master's degree in comedy," Azcona adds.
A brilliant idea! It's a comedy of errors in which a man suspects his wife is having an affair with a real estate agent. To find out if the infidelity is true, he hires an actor who looks exactly like the agent to impersonate him at a dinner party. But the agent has a twin brother who works as a plumber... Lluís Villanueva highlights the complexity of vaudeville, "a style of comedy that demands absolute mastery of rhythm and an intuitive understanding of the audience." Villanueva recalls that in an interview, Sébastien Castro was asked about the play's message, and the author replied that there wasn't one, that vaudeville speaks for itself. Comedy is also the natural habitat of actress and adapter Susanna Garachana. In fact, it's the genre in which she says she feels "most comfortable, also as a spectator." "I love the play; it's very well written and structured. It may seem simple, but it's a clockwork mechanism. It has many puns, it's very French in the most positive sense, and performing it is a lot of fun and a gift," Garachana concludes.
