  • United States (2026)
  • 112 minutes

Sixteen years ago, David Fincher directed one of the essential films of the 21st century based on an impossible premise: the creation of Facebook. The Social Network demonstrated the filmmaker's ability to turn a screenplay –a written and spoken text– into a dizzying spectacle, transforming prosaic events like an awkward bar conversation into images worth watching. Almost two decades later, Aaron Sorkin, the screenwriter of that milestone and angry spokesperson for progressive consciousness in the United States, has dared to write and direct the sequel, replacing Fincher and also the actor (Jesse Eisenberg), who embodied Mark Zuckerberg in an exemplary way, now played by a Jeremy Strong full of tics.

The Price of the Network emulates the cinematic classics of investigative journalism: there is a stubborn journalist (Jeremy Allen White, the dull actor), a courageous informant (Mikey Madison doing what she can), and a series of reports on how Facebook's algorithm fueled the far-right radicalization that led to the storming of the Capitol and changed the course of a country… or maybe not? The worst thing about the film is not its obsolete content or the superficiality with which it addresses themes (social networks as producers of hate speech and disinformation) better treated in documentaries and reports, but rather that it only demonstrates that we are much worse off than in 2018 and that, ultimately, it is useless to resist a technological power that, with the development of AI, seems completely omnipotent.
