Rosalía inspires a song from the new U2 album

BarcelonaThe new U2 album, Carnaval de Luz (Island Records), will reach stores on November 13th and will be the band's first with new material in nine years. The album, which was announced this Thursday, will consist of 12 songs that explore themes such as spirituality, friendship, freedom, and resilience. Among the collaborations on the album will be a duet between Bono and Dolly Parton, who passed away at the end of August. The track, titled Torn, which revolves around the breaking of family ties, has turned out to be the legendary singer's last recorded vocal performance.

On this occasion, U2 has also added Rosalía to the album, but as a source of inspiration for the song The mirror maker, and not as a collaborator as the fact that the name of the artist from Sant Esteve Sesrovires appears in parentheses next to the track title suggested. The misunderstanding led many media outlets, including ARA, to think that Rosalía was participating.

Brian Eno, the historic British musician and producer, is the co-author of Go, the first song on the album, The greatest show on Earth, and Can't stop us now; Martin Garrix has co-written Glorify and Daniel Lanois has participated on Torn with the pedal steel. The announcement of the album's release has been linked to the publication of the music video for Silencio, which, according to the record label, is "a total tribute to the irreverence of early surf-punk".

Carnaval de Luz is the 16th studio album by the Irish band and has been produced by Jacknife Lee. The record will also include Street of dreams, which was released last July. "Let yourselves be surprised in the hall of mirrors —Bono wrote in a statement to announce the new work—. There will be powerful guitars, deep bass and some ecstatic rhythms, and some silver tears will also make an appearance". The singer adds that "the same imagination that gives us creativity can also bring us monsters, so let's make the drums sound louder, the fire bigger and our stories wilder and more fun" because "if the world is in darkness, we had better not be". For his part, The Edge has defined the album as "a provocative, chaotic and sacred collection of songs".

2026 is, for U2, a special year. The band, formed in Dublin in 1976, celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. Throughout this time it has become one of the reference groups of contemporary music, has sold 175 million records and has received 22 Grammy awards. At the beginning of this year, the group released Days of Ash, an EP with six songs of "rebellion, dismay and lament" that includes tracks about Ukraine, Palestine and the murders in Minneapolis.
