BarcelonaOques Grasses, Rita Payés, Albert Guinovart, Roger Mas and the Cobla Sant Jordi are some of the names recognized at the sixth edition of the Alícia Awards, held this Thursday in room 2 of L'Auditori de Barcelona. The Catalan Academy of Music has recognized eleven artists and projects in a gala that vindicated Catalan talent and was hosted by cupletista Glòria Ribera. The event, which was also broadcast live on the 3Cat platform, featured the participation of personalities such as Joan Albert Amargós, Carme Canela, Judit Neddermann and Llum, among others.
Coinciding with the 150th anniversary of the birth of Antoni Gaudí, the academy has awarded the Albert Guinovart authorship award for his Gaudí Symphony, premiered in the same Auditorium. The recognition for the record production has been for Flight 2 (Satélite K, 2024) by Roger Mas and the Cobla Sant Jordi, the second volume of a collaboration that first saw the light of day in 2012. Singer and trumpeter Rita Payés won the award for performance, which stood out for her sensitivity and authenticity on stage. The interdisciplinary category went to the show. Biterna, a proposal by IT Dansa, the Cor Jove Nacional de Catalunya, and Arnau Obiols. The Internationalization Award went to Queralt Lahoz, whose fusion of flamenco and hip-hop has earned a place on the lineup of international festivals.
The 2025 Alícia Award for Lifetime Achievement went to bassist Carles Benavent, who, in his acceptance speech, recalled anecdotes from his years with Paco de Lucía, such as when some flamenco spectators referred to him as "the one with the Chinese guitar." With a career spanning more than five decades in Mediterranean jazz and contemporary flamenco, the academy recognized his contribution to flamenco with the electric bass. More than five hundred people filled the Oriol Martorell Hall of the Auditori to watch the gala live, which was also broadcast on 3Cat and will be broadcast on Channel 33 this Friday.
