Metal returns to conquer the Diada with the Catalunya Triomfant festival

BarcelonaThe success of the first edition of the Catalunya Triomfant festival, on September 11, 2025, spurred the promoters Hello Cleveland and Blood Fire Death to provide continuity to a historic event for Catalan metal music. And like last year, the Paral·lel 62 venue in Barcelona will host half a dozen bands on the evening of the National Day starting at 5:30 p.m. This Friday's edition, moreover, features the draw of the return of the Barcelona quartet Foscor after a few years away from the stage. "We will recover songs that we have not played live for a long time from our first three albums," they explain. The purpose of their concert (at 9:10 p.m.) is to celebrate the group's 25th anniversary by conveying "the intensity, the density, and that tragic music" and with a repertoire sung exclusively in Catalan.

Foscor, who starting from black metal have explored other metal textures, are the headliners of a Catalunya Triomfant that once again functions as a showcase and aggregator of different ways of doing things within the Catalan extreme metal scene. For example, the anti-fascist black metal of Amargor (6:25 PM), the project of Barcelona-born Manel-Song Ollé Chin, who this summer has released a sensational album: Serem l'urna de l'honor (with a devastating adaptation of Camins by Sopa de Cabra included).

The festival, with tickets at 25 euros (20 euros in advance), will be opened at 5:30 p.m. by the Berguedà group Thanatopraxy, grindcore rooted in classics of the genre such as the British Napalm Death and Carcass and the Swedish Nasum. As in the case of Foscor, Thanatopraxy will focus their repertoire on their songs in Catalan. From the speed of the first bands, it will move to the relative calm of the folk doom of Falç de Fetillera (7:20 p.m.), the project by Marta Moreno, Ivan Ruiz Tambor, and Anna de Mas created in 2018, with witchcraft as an aesthetic, scenic, and philosophical concept, and a repertoire that as soon includes an adaptation of Stella Splendens (from the Llibre Vermell de Montserrat, from the 14th century) as Abra Cat Dabra, a version of Abracadabra by Lady Gaga (from the 21st century).

Before Foscor it will be the turn of Angoixa (8:15 PM), the now Barcelona-based quartet that defends a death metal of splendid abjection, as they demonstrate in the album they have released this year: Vida i mort. The echo of Entombed is very present in the subterranean riffs of Angoixa. Finally, after Foscor, the Terrassa-based band Vrademargk (10:30 PM) will close the festival with their personal interpretation of death metal, with an interesting mix of pause and virulence. After the magnificent album Arrelats (2021), a few months ago they released El panteó dels vius, recorded in Terrassa at the Farm of Sounds studio by Eloi Boucherie, the singer and guitarist of Vidres a la Sang, one of the groups that participated in the Catalunya Triomfant 2025 together with Assot, Bocc, Ósserp, Siroll! and Udol.
