The Spice Girls fuel rumors of an imminent return with an enigmatic video
The images, filmed on the stairs of the hotel where 'Wannabe' was shot in 1996, invite fans to stay tuned for an announcement this Thursday at noon
BarcelonaThe British girl pop group Spice Girls has set off all the alarms for a possible return to the stage or for the release of new musical material. They have done so through a mysterious video on social media.
The official profiles of the group –originally composed of Mel B, Mel C, Emma Bunton, Geri Halliwell, and Victoria Beckham– have published a short clip accompanied by a message that invites people to stay tuned for an announcement that should take place today at 2 PM (British time). All this, with their legendary song Wannabe (1996) in the background.
The video makes a direct nod to this song, as it is filmed on the same hotel stairs where the original music video was shot. In the image, a newspaper appears on the floor, where upon zooming in, one can read: "Are you a Spice Girls fan with the ability to sing and dance? Are you a superfan, a collector, a music lover?".
Immediately, their community of followers analyzed every detail of the message to the millimeter and began to formulate theories about a possible reunion tour, a new album, or a special anniversary edition, coinciding with the thirty years of the release of Wannabe this 2026.
The newspaper shown is The Stage, the same outlet where in 1994 the casting advertisement was published to create a girl group that ended up being the Spice Girls. Apart from the date and time this Thursday, the text details that for the revelation "no sheet music is needed, but a vinyl or CD player is."
The Spice Girls are one of the most successful girl groups in recent music history, with nine number ones in the United Kingdom and more than 100 million copies sold worldwide.
Geri, Mel B, Mel C, and Emma went on their last tour together in 2019, with 13 concerts in stadiums across the United Kingdom and Europe. However, the fifth member, Victoria Beckham, has not performed in public with the group since the closing ceremony of the London Olympic Games in 2012.
Although rumors of a return of the complete lineup have been a constant, a video posted in February by Cruz Beckham – Victoria's son – where four of the members appeared singing Viva Forever reopened hopes that this time the reunion will truly happen.
