Love leaves a trace in Torroella de Montgrí

The festival's programming includes Daniil Trifonov, Nadine Sierra, the OBC and the Diotima Quartet

BarcelonaThe Russian pianist Daniil Trifonov and the American soprano Nadine Sierra are two of the standout names at the 46th Festival de Torroella de Montgrí, which will be held from July 31 to August 21. The motto “Love leaves a trace” shelters a program that the festival director, Montse Faura, assures will “not be a simple succession of concerts, but a constellation of experiences”. The trace, says Faura, is “what remains after a true artistic experience; what modifies us, what continues to act within us long after the last note has disappeared”. It is the sensation that she hopes a dozen concerts will provoke, most of them at the Auditori Espai Ter.

The festival will be inaugurated by the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra and National of Catalonia (OBC), conducted by the Belarusian Vitali Alekseenok, the principal conductor of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein. With the Barcelona pianist Josep Colom as soloist, they will perform a program dedicated to Beethoven. Another distinguished soloist, the Madrid cellist Pablo Ferrández, will be the protagonist of the August 1 concert by the Simfònica del Vallès on Pau Casals: under the baton of Andrés Salado, the orchestra will link a program that will include Elgar's Cello Concerto in E minor which Casals recorded twice, with Tchaikovsky's Romeo and Juliet overture, and Sant Martí del Canigó, which Casals composed in exile in Prada in the early years of exile.
