Laura Gost recommends a book "much deeper than one might think"

BarcelonaTo explore the impact of the tradwives phenomenon and bring its consequences to the table, American writer Caro Claire Burke published the novel Yesteryear in 2024, which quickly achieved massive success in the United States. The book arrived in Spanish this year courtesy of AdN publishing house and, in parallel, an audiovisual adaptation is being made starring Anne Hathaway. Mallorcan writer Laura Gost has recently read it and has been fascinated by it. "I went into it thinking it would be something superficial and very stereotypical, but it's much deeper than you might think," says Gost.

The novel begins with the story of Natalie Heller Mills, a woman devoted to domestic tasks and caring for her six children, while also being an influencer on social media. From one day to the next, she wakes up in 1855 and discovers that life at home is much more complicated than she imagined. "The novel talks a lot about the world we live in. It has reflections on capitalism, the role of women, the exposure of children to social media, and right-wing politics," explains Gost, who will publish a new book in September titled El preu de néixer.

Despite the strong ideological charge of the story, Laura Gost asserts that the protagonist of Yesteryear "has a somewhat acid perspective, with a fairly solid argument of filopolitical implications, even if it's not shared at all, and that's one of the interesting elements of the book." According to the writer, it is a "very well-rounded" novel, which has pleasantly surprised her and which she does not hesitate to recommend.
