Jean-Paul Rappeneau, director of 'Cyrano de Bergerac', dies

The French screenwriter and filmmaker Jean-Paul Rappeneau, who directed the Oscar-winning version of Cyrano de Bergerac (1990) with Gerard Depardieu, has died at the age of 94. Rappeneau, also director of The Horseman on the Roof (1995), cultivated a commercial cinema of quality and with a sense of spectacle.
