Gustavo Dudamel, the New York Philharmonic and the Orfeó Català will inaugurate BCN Clàssics
The 2026-2027 season also includes names such as Daniele Gatti, Anne-Sophie Mutter, Klaus Mäkelä and Sol Gabetta
BarcelonaThe 2026-2027 season of BCN Clàssics will begin with an exceptional concert by Gustavo Dudamel with the New York Philharmonic and the Orfeó Català. It will take place on October 12 at L'Auditori. The concert is exceptional in three ways. Firstly, it marks a new collaboration between Dudamel and the Orfeó Català after the success of the Solemn Mass Beethoven in Los AngelesIn addition, the Venezuelan conductor, who is concluding his tenure with the Los Angeles Philharmonic this year, will lead the New York Philharmonic, of which he has been appointed artistic director. Finally, there is the program: On the transmigration of souls, by John Adams; the Symphony No. 5 by Sergei Prokofiev, and the state premiere of a work by Canadian composer Zosha Di Castri.
The new BCN Clàssics season program includes fifteen concerts (seven at the Palau de la Música and five at L'Auditori), and the Orfeó Català will also participate in one of the two Beethoven concerts by the Staatskapelle Dresden conducted by Daniele Gatti. Specifically, in the one by the Ninth SymphonyThe concert, which will take place on May 11, 2027, at the Palau de la Música, will also feature soprano Sara Blanch, mezzo-soprano Silvia Tro Santafé, tenor Bernard Richter, and bass Christian Gerhaher. Prior to that, on the 7th, Gatti will conduct a program with the First, the Quarter and the Fifth.
The BCN Clàssics program features a visit from Klaus Mäkelä and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, who will perform on February 12 at L'Auditori. Fantastic Symphony Berlioz and the Symphony No. 1 Schumann's works. A very high level, then, in the programming of the twelfth season of a cycle that began in 2016. Also in this vein of excellence are the concerts by Semyon Bychkov with the Czech Philharmonic and pianist Behzod Abduraimov (soloist in the Piano Concerto No. 3 Rahmaninoff's); the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra with a repertoire dedicated to Richard Strauss and Max Bruch; violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter with the Munich Philharmonic and its principal conductor, Lahav Shani; the National Orchestra of the Capitole de Toulouse conducted by Kazuki Yamada (with the Novena Mahler's); cellist Sol Gabetta, who will perform the Cello Concerto No. 1 by Shostakovich with the Bern Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Krzysztof Urbański (with a Russian program that includes The Firebird by Stravinsky and A night on the bare mountain by Mussorgsky), and the pianist Hélène Grimaud, who will play the Sonata No. 32 in C minor Beethoven and the Sonata No. 21 in B-flat major by Schubert.
Also, Emmanuelle Haïm returns to BCN Clàssic for the third time with theensemble Le Concert de Astrée, this time to perform The Messiah by Handel. Pianist Khatia Buniatishvili also returns for the second consecutive year. There will also be a tribute to Pau Casals by cellist Pablo Ferrández, alongside Roberto González-Monjas leading the Musikkollegium Winterthur.
BCN Clásicos continues its Km0 series, with four concerts in close proximity to the Petit Palau and L'Auditori's Hall 2, featuring the Cosmos Quartet, soprano Sabrina Gárdez with pianist Vanessa García Diepa, and pianist Naruhiko Kawaguchi (who will give a recital). In addition to the regular season program, there are two concerts designed for families: a Christmas concert by the ADDA Alicante Symphony Orchestra on December 17th and a concert by the Vienna Boys' Choir on February 28th.
