BarcelonaWinter is coming, but this time to a cinema. Warner is preparing a film set in the universe of Game of Thrones, which would be the first cinematic foray into the franchise. According to Page Six Hollywood and reported by Variety, Beau Willimon, the showrunner of House of Cards and Andor, has written a first version of the script that is already in the hands of Warner executives. This would be the first step for the studio to give the green light to the Game of Thrones film.

In principle, the Game of Thrones film would focus on the story of Aegon the Conqueror, the founder of the Targaryen dynasty, and his conquest of the Seven Kingdoms. Therefore, the story would be set centuries before the events of Game of Thrones, and would also precede its prequels, House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. There is no information yet about possible directors or actors linked to the project.

The news comes as Warner is in negotiations to be acquired by Paramount, a purchase that could influence the studio's final decision regarding the film. David Ellison, CEO of Paramount, stated that his plan was to release thirty films per year in the new company resulting from the merger, fifteen with Warner and fifteen with Paramount.
